The Voivodship Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Gdańsk assumed the honorary patronage of the STORMWATER POLAND 2020 conference “Rain of inspiration.”

The Voivodship Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Gdańsk decided to take the honorary patronage of the STORMWATER POLAND 2020 conference, because water protection is one of the priorities in this institution’s 26-year activity.

The Fund participated in the implementation of the Water Protection Program of the Gdańsk, Puck and Vistula Lagoon. The flow of pollutants into the sea waters has been limited and thanks to this we have clean beaches today. We now consider populated, safe bathing areas to be completely natural, but this has not always been the case. And it’s worth remembering. WFOŚiGW in Gdańsk has been co-financing investments for years, the purpose of which is to reduce the amount of pollutants discharged along with wastewater to surface waters, sea waters and to the ground, as required by the National Program for Municipal Sewage Treatment (KPOŚK). The outdated water and sewage infrastructure has been modernized: the system of collective sanitary sewage system has been expanded, sewage treatment plants as well as water treatment plants in many Pomeranian towns were rebuilt.

WFOŚiGW in Gdańsk also dealt with the issue of wastewater management in areas with dispersed housing, located outside the agglomerations indicated in the KPOŚK. Local or home sewage treatment plants were built there. The fund also supports surface water retention activities and projects aimed at increasing the region’s flood safety. We also take care of the quality of Pomeranian lakes’ waters, we limit their degradation. One of many example. The Kartuzy commune received PLN 45 million in funding from the NFEPWM for the rehabilitation and purification of four lakes. This is a breakthrough moment for the Carthusian community that waited for it … half a century. In four years, the beaches at the lakes will be open. The Provincial Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Gdańsk also has its share in this historic undertaking. In 2014, WFOŚiGW co-financed the preparation of the concept of reclamation of Carthusian lakes, which became the basis for applying for funds from the Operational Program Infrastructure and Environment Measure 2.5 Improving the quality of the urban environment.

We care especially for lakes in our region, because we are the most “lake” province in Poland. There are the most water reservoirs in Poland in Pomerania. There are 18 thousand ponds. There are 8.5 thousand of them only in the Kashubian Lake District. There are over a thousand lakes above 1 hectare. Pomerania lakes, which is why the interest of the Provincial Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Gdańsk has been directed for years at and to the protection and rehabilitation of lakes. Thanks to the Fund’s operations, the Pomeranian Province has changed radically. It has become a more environmentally friendly region. We also take care of ecological education in the field of water saving. We implement the informational and promotional campaign “Pomeranian feel the climate”, in which the Pomorski family argues that it is worth protecting water resources, because we have just little of it, and also use it with reason and moderation. 2.5% – only that much fresh water resources in the world! Pomeranian people urge you to collect rainwater and to follow simple rules: you brush your teeth, turn off the water; instead of a bathtub, choose a quick shower; Wash clothes only in a full washing machine.
